Years ago, when I first started out on this health and wellness journey of mine, I was lucky enough to have a friend that was a personal trainer. He gave me lots of great advice over the years and really helped me on my path to being the person I am today.

One secret recipe he shared with me was this Sassy Water Recipe. When he first told me about it, I was curious and also more than a little skeptical – there were no “wow” ingredients, just 4 simple easy-to-buy ingredients that I perceived to have no real advantageous benefits. How were lemons, cucumbers, ginger, and mint leaves going to help me lose 3-5 lbs in a week???

At that point in my life, I was still very much consumed with weight loss alone – I couldn’t have cared less that this detox also helped my body to be rid of chemicals and toxins. {A much more exciting and lasting benefit, in my humble opinion, now}

This insanely easy sassy water recipe is the most effective and refreshing detox water I have tried over the years.

But boy, was I wrong! And I have continued to be proved wrong time and time again!

Although simple, these ingredients are powerful and will help you to cleanse and purify your body, helping you to feel refreshed and rejuvenated once again, and yes, you will lose 3-5 lbs as a result of your digestive tract being cleansed.

There are just four simple ingredients that make Sassy Water so effective, cucumber, lemon, ginger, and mint.

A secret of personal trainers, this sassy water recipe is a light and refreshing detox water drink designed to help you lose the bloat fast!
This Sassy Water recipe is super easy to throw together, and you’re body will thank you!

All you’ll need to do is slice your cucumber and lemons and then finely slice your mint leaves into pretty little ribbons and add them to a pitcher of purified water. I love my ZERO watcher pitcher! It helps to really purify my water so it tastes better and is free of contaminants. Or you may buy purified water to create this recipe. Just DO NOT use tap water.

Andie using microplane to grate the ginger into the sassy water recipe.
A microplane works great to achieve the finely grated ginger that works best in Sassy Water.

To grate your ginger use a vegetable peeler to get the skin off, and then I like to use a microplane to grate my ginger right into my water usually, one chunky ginger knob is about right.

And just like that, you have delicious and refreshing detox sassy water recipe all ready to go!! You can simply add new water every day for up to three days if you are wanting to do the detox for longer {I recommend no longer than 7 days}. Just make a new batch and repeat the process!

You can complete this detox without changing your diet at all, or you can amplify your results and use my 7-Day Detox Meal Plan and Cheat Sheets! They are a great companion and will guide you through the process completely!

  2. Alexa Berens says:

Drink the gallon over the 7 day spread or one gallon everyday ?

    1. Andie Thueson says:

Alexa you drink a gallon a day! It's an adjustment but your body will thank you!!

  3. Jill Andrews says:

How much sliced cucumber…the whole thing?

    1. Andie Thueson says:

Jill, Yep you'll slice up an entire Cucumber! Good Luck!

  4. Okay, just making sure I have this right… do you buy all the ingredients once and keep refilling it with a gallon of water each day or do you buy one of each of the ingredients and replace it completely each day? Sorry if it's a lame question. 🙂

    1. Andie Thueson says:

Dana, It's best to use fresh ingredients daily but if you need to you can just refill your jug and replace with fresh ingredients every 2-3 days. I hope this helps!!! Good Luck! Andie

  5. Sharon Luis says:

Hey there Andie, do I just drink this for a week only with no meals? Or can I eat ? Sorry if it sounds stupid.

    1. Andie Thueson says:

Sharon, Yes PLEASE EAT!!! Just make sure you're eating healthy and exercising so that you are getting the most out of your detox! Good Luck!! — Andie 🙂

    2. Sharon Luis says:

Thank you Andie. Have a nice day 🙂

  6. I know this may sound dumb but I just slice and grate the ingredients and let them sit in the water? If so how long should it sit in the water before I drink it? Also, is this something that tastes good or is it one of those detox drink you have to force yourself to drink?

    1. Andie Thueson says:

Jen, I usually let my detox waters steep overnight but at the minimum you'll want to them to sit for at least 10 minutes. I personally like the taste of this water. But I have friends who didn't like it as much. They added a packet of crystal light or other 5 calorie mix in to help out with the flavor… It's all up to your personal taste preference. Good Luck!!! Andie

    2. I don't know why you would add crystal light or any of those drink mixes to a detox water since they are full of sugar whether it be artificial or "natural" and synthetic chemicals. I would not recommend doing that.

  7. Tracy Blankenship says:

This may be a silly queston…but there doesn't seem to be any ingredients that make it dangerous to drink. Why only a week and then wait 6wks. These are all ingredients I eat a lot so just curious.

    1. Andie Thueson says:

This is a super effective cleanse. It will clean you out! 😉 So best to do it only every six weeks so as not to over stimulate your system.

  8. Alicia Martin says:

I was just wondering if this will speed up metabolism…even after doing the water cleanse?

    1. Andie Thueson says:

If you want a good metabolism boosting everyday drink you should try my Apple detox water.. That would be a great follow up to your Sassy Water Cleanse.

Thanks!

Andie

  9. Renee Pugsley says:

How would you compare this detox water to the Jillian Michaels detox water that you tried? Thanks!

    1. Andie Thueson says:

This is definitely the more potent of the two. I like the Jillian Michaels one for a more regular detox and every month or so I'll do this one to really get a good cleanse. Warning this one will clean you out!!

Thanks!!

Andie
10. For the last one month I have been drinking Sassy water every day, as I really like its refreshing taste, and since it has nothing harmful, I felt that drinking it as part of my daily routine would help me. I thought it would help me lose weight, but my weight is the same, and I don't mind it, for I feel really good and it also helps me finish my quota of water for the day.
I make it

    1. Andie Thueson says:

      Rama,
I'm sorry to hear that the Sassy Water didn't help you out!! I have had great success with it! A couple thoughts came to me that hopefully will help you out on your weight loss journey! As we get older our body has a harder time processing carbs. So the more you can trim those from your diet the more you'll see the scale move! Also you might want to talk to a doctor about

  11. Lindsey Wiley says:

In the interview you saw to do this for 3 days, but in your post it says do it for 7 days…should I plan for 3 or 7?

    1. Andie Thueson says:

Lindsey you may do this detox for as little as 3 days or for up to 7 days… It's really up to you! I recommend 7 to get the maximum benefits! Good Luck!! <3 Andie

    2. Lindsey Wiley says:

      GREAT! Thank you so much!

  12. Sabrina Zuniga says:

Is this just going to make you pee a lot!?

    1. Andie Thueson says:

Yes you will pee a lot, but you will also be cleansing your colon of excess waste so be prepared for that as well. 😉 good luck! Andie

    2. Sabrina Zuniga says:

I am on day 2 I have experienced the going pee a lot lol but anything else no.. is it just not working for me or am I doing something wrong?

    3. Andie Thueson says:

Everyone is so different I would give it a little more time. The ginger root is the key ingredient to the colon cleansing so make sure you're adding fresh ginger daily if you are not seeing any "action"…

  13. Jess Trayn says:

Do you leave the ingredients in the jug when you drink it or do you strain out just the water after you have let it set for awhile?

    1. Andie Thueson says:

I leave the ingredients in the jug that way they continue to flavor the water and excrete their cleansing goodness!! Good Luck!! Andie

    2. Jess Trayn says:

      Awesome! Thank you 🙂

  14. How important is the mint? I know for sure I can find all the other ingredients fresh but not sure about mint leaves. (I live in Seoul so sometimes it hard finding special things due to my language barrier)

  15. I was researching Sassy Water… and can you still drink it and lose weight if you don't plan on doing the Flat Belly Diet by Prevention? From what I was reading, it said the Sassy Water is the first step in Prevention's Flat Belly Diet, and sometimes if you eat carbs on it, etc. your body can actually retain water (as I guess the flat belly diet is a low carb, high protein diet). I was

  16. Arica White says:

Hello. I was curious, I drink more then a gallon of water a day because I am always so thirsty. So do I drink the gallon of sassy water a day and then replace the rest of my water intake with regular water? Thanks in advance!!

  17. tiffanykis says:

Can you do both the sassy water and the dandelion detox tea together?
18. Can I slice the ginger instead of grating it

  19. Is this cleanse okay to do during pregnancy?

    1. I would consult with your OB, but I would say no.. But once your ready to shed the baby weight after, go for it! 🙂
