Please don’t take my word for it. Here are some of your comments!

Omg, thank you for this. My plants look super happy, and they look like they are absorbing nutrients more effectively.
Oh, trust me, it works! I tried this for the first time years ago. My comment is somewhere on here! And holy cow! It was like my flowers went crazy, and within 24 hours, the dried dying pots I had were full and back to life, and within a week maybe? Everything it touched was noticeably fuller in bloom and taller in height. Not to mention everything I sprayed this on was now budding new life
Oh my gosh!! Andie! This stuff is THA BOMB DIGGITY!!
I have to figure out how to post before pix of (1-week dehydrated plants ???? that look well done and extra crispy — toooooo….. ???????????? (AFTER PIX!!! Only 3 days everyone!! The color came back, the leaves were full and bright, (the Acrobat ants didn’t like it, but that’s ok I didn’t like them either!) and after 2 weeks of regular watering and 3 times a week a little spritz-n-spray of your recipe, they sadly had to come out of the baskets they were hanging in… Because they were too dang big for my porch!!! So in the ground, they went!! I could kiss you I’m so excited!!!! Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!! And I used everything exactly as andie did. Brand names and all.

Some readers refer to this as the “crazy drunk concoction” because it is a beer plant fertilizer. But I promise this magical drunken concoction works on any plant, and you will definitely see the growth of your plants take off as you have NEVER seen before.

My husband, the master gardener in our home. He has been making this perfect fertilizer every spring through summer for the past 20 years we have been married! And every year without fail, we have the most envious yard on the block! All our neighbors eventually come and ask us what we are doing since it seems your outdoor plants are on steroids with the crazy rapid growth.

When used correctly, this crazy mixture works miracles on not just our garden but on all of our friends and family we have shared our recipe with!

So are you READY to get the 4 Ingredient plant food recipe for Bigger Better Plants This Year!!

Beer, Ammonia, Shampoo, and Miracle Grow mixed will give you the biggest plants ever
This secret family recipe is THE answer to How To Make Plants Grow Faster!

Seriously your LIFE will not be the SAME! It works that WELL!

Now for the secret family RECIPE!! For as long as my dear hubby can remember, this plant food recipe has been a hush-hush family secret! But Why NOT share a good thing that works wonders!

The four magical ingredients for bigger plants
These Four weird ingredients are all you need to create the viral sensation to make your yard the prettiest on the block!

INGREDIENTS YOU’LL NEED FOR “STEROIDS FOR PLANTS”: YEP, THAT’S WHAT I’M CALLING IT

  • 1 Cup Ammonia
  • 1 Cup Shampoo
  • 8 oz Beer
  • 1 Sleeve of Miracle-Gro use granules only.

NOW, STICK WITH ME! I’LL WALK YOU THROUGH THE ENTIRE PROCESS! IT CAN GET CONFUSING! (AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE NUMBER OF COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS! )

Please NOTE* For the best results, use the right fertilizer, Miracle-Gro granules. From our experience, granular fertilizers work best.

Photo of Kelly mixing up the ingredient for the plant food in his bucket.
Mix it all up in your bucket

STEP ONE: Mix the MiracleGro packet, shampoo, ammonia, and beer mix with a paint stick in a LARGE 5-gallon bucket. This mixture will be POTENT and can stain, so use caution! (concrete included) Do NOT dump the mix on your plants or grass directly! The combination is intended to be highly diluted with enough water!

Photo of Kelly pouring the plant food into his Miracle Gro Sprayer
Use caution! The undulated mixture can stain.

STEP TWO: Don’t miss this important step, as it is a CRUCIAL FACTOR and one I get asked a lot about. Using a sprayer is ESSENTIAL. Portion out and fill the sprayer to the full point and attach to your garden house – Then spray plants while the hose is on! This will ensure that the mixture is adequately diluted and allow for its magic to work!

Photo of Kelly demonstrating the use of the Miracle Gro Sprayer connected to the hose
Kelly likes to add some marbles to his sprayer to help agitate the mixture while spraying.

STEP THREE: Spray all of your plants and refill the sprayer as needed. After you have sprayed all your different plants, dump any leftovers. The concoction will not keep. Make sure you are spraying the root system and around the base of the plant. This will ensure that the magic goes straight to the plant roots boosting the growth of plants.

Look at the happy mixture getting deep into the roots to help them grow!

STEP FOUR: It’s a good idea to repeat this process every 2-3 weeks throughout the growing season and watch the growth of your plants take off! It is so fun to watch them flourish!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What Types of Plants Does This For?: We have sprayed this concoction on indoor plants (like our snake plants and other green plants.) Ornamental plants, garden bed, tomato plants, trees, ornamental grasses, flowers, basically any plant that grows above ground will benefit.

Do I Still Need To Water Normally?: Yes! Plants still need adequate water to grow! So please water as you usually would. Yes, your plants still need basic proper care.

Is It Ok To Use On Plants I Eat? This is a great question. Please only spray the base of your plants, being even more mindful of this on plants that bear fruit or veggies! On other plants spraying the leaves and flowers will be just fine, but as a best practice concentrating on the root system is best.

Can I Use This Recipe Without a Sprayer?: No, a sprayer is an important factor to get the correct water dilution ratio, and you don’t get too much water.

All I Can Find Is Lemon Ammonia, Will That Work? In a pinch, this will work, but plain ammonia works best.

On the post for the Miracle-Gro concoction, how much is a sleeve? I can’t find it sold that way. If you cannot locate the sleeve of granules, sub out for 2 cups of Miracle Grow Granules -Liquid fertilizers will not work with the recipe.

Can this also be used to fertilize grass? Yes, it can be used on grass

Can I use it on regular potted house plants? Ex. basil, rosemary, lavender, green house plants, oregano, lemongrass, wheatgrass, mint, bell peppers, and so on…? Yes, but again with anything you are eating, the best way is to only spray the root system.

Does it matter what kind of beer or shampoo? Light beer or reg? Cheap shampoo, and does it matter what scent? Any beer and any shampoo will work! We buy the cheapest possible, Keystone and V05. A trip to the dollar store, and you usually pick up most of the ingredients.

Can I Use Baby Shampoo instead? Yes, baby shampoo will work.

How Often Can I Use The Concoction? You can spray your plants every two or three weeks for fast plant growth.

Is it ok To Use Tap Water? Yes, good old water straight from the hose works great; no need for fancy filtered water or aquarium water.

Will This Work On An Existing Plant? Yes! Even if it’s a plant you’ve had for years, this mixture will breathe new life back into it!

THE NERDY ACTUAL SCIENCE BEHIND THIS CRAZY MIXTURE AND THE MAIN REASONS WHY IT WORKS

Ammonia provides much nitrogen, one of the important nutrients your plants need.

Shampoo opens the plants so that the necessary nutrients can get to the roots.

Miracle-Gro acts as the plant food.

Beer acts as a catalyst to speed up the growth of the plant!

These seemingly weird and bizarre ingredients work together to help your plants be the healthy plants they are meant to be. You’ll see the crazy growth rate skyrocket, and you will be amazed at how well ALL your plants respond to this stuff. If you read through the 200+ comments, you will see lots of questions, but you will also read many first-hand accounts of how well this stuff works! It makes my heart happy knowing my gardener friends worldwide are mixing up their beer, ammonia, shampoo, and Miracle-Gro to make this fantastic family secret concoction.

Crazy, but trust me, it works. I have to give a big shout-out to Mr. Thueson for stepping in and modeling the process. He is the natural gardener in our home and the true expert on this topic.

When we were young newlyweds and had just bought our first home, Kelly told me he would never buy me flowers. At first, I was hurt. What no flowers. I remember looking at him and thinking, what the heck, really? But just as quickly, he totally redeemed himself in the following sentence. Instead, every year I will plant you a yard full of flowers. And he has. I got myself a good one.

I hope this little concoction of bizarre ingredients helps you win the best yard on the block, too, not that it is a competition. ?

Good Luck + Much Love,

  1. Thank you for the information! I am going to give this a try, my hanging baskets never get really full

    1. You’re welcome! Hanging baskets respond really well!!

      1. Wanda King says:

Can this be used on fern and just to be sure, do you spray the foliage only or do you spray and drench the soil/potting mix?

        1. Haven’t used this on indoor plants — so I’m not sure!

          1. What is a sleeve of miracle grow?

          2. Just one packet of crystals… They should come in a 4 pack 🙂

          3. Karen S Miller says:

Why why people do you try to alter a tried and true recipe? Jeez just follow the simple instructions and see for yourself, I’m going for it with excitement. Thank You!

      2. Joel Reagan says:

Hi…I’ve used this in the past and love it. I now live in an apartment and don’t have a water hose
Do you think you could mix in a water pale for the same effect?

      3. Latin a Lawyers says:

I can’t wait to try this thank you so much for the info ..but all I can find is lemon scented ammonia. Is it all right to use ?..have you ever ? Or should I just wait till I find some regular.. Some places say not to use scented ..will it cause a problem… Thank you

  2. LaurieKae says:

I would ONLY like to use this on my flowers, and use a watering bucket usually to water them (as the hose won’t reach) Can you tell me how much to dilute this mixture? It looks amazing, and I am exited to try it! Thank you!

    1. To be on the safe side I wouldn’t recommend not using a sprayer with a hose attached. Not having it properly diluted can cause your plants to be burned. Water is a key ingredient!! Hope this helps! <3 Andie

      1. Willie Johnston says:

Why not use the sprayer attachment on the hose to fill watering can. Or maybe fill up empty gallon milk jugs and tote them with your cart or wheelbarrow to your flower garden site.

        1. Willie, great suggestions! Since I have a sprayer – I know it is super easy to use and I know everything is diluted perfectly! 🙂

          1. how often do you do this??

          2. Every 2-3 weeks!

      2. It seems interesting, but to complete your receipt, can you precise how many liters of water you had excatly ? It is not precised.

        1. Valerie!
The recipe calls for 60 ounces daily so in liters that would be approx 1.78

  3. Linda Gervasi says:

I would like to try this, but I just bought the Miracle grow liquid. Would it work if I replaced the Miracle Grow granules with 1 bottle of the liquid?

    1. I’m not sure how the liquid compares to granules as far as potency. So I really don’t have an answer for you. Our family has always used the granules!!!

  4. Can you use organic fertilizer or compost instead of miracle grow? Or even leave it out?

    1. I can appreciate that you want to use cleansed organic products. This formula does not work with compost or fertilizer… It’s designed to be used with the Miracle-Gro crystals not the fertilizer. Hope that helps! Andie

  5. Trisha Moore says:

On the post for the Miracle-Gro concoction how much is a sleeve? I cant find it sold that way. I can only find box powder form and liquid.

    1. If you aren’t able to find the pre-measured bags substitute 2 cups of dry crystals. – I wouldn’t recommend using liquid! – Hope that helps! <3 Andie

      1. Thank you that answers my question. I’m sure going to try it. I hope my Daughter won’t mind it I (borrow) one of her beers.

  6. Ethan Roberts says:

How often do you spray this

    1. Ethan you can use this concoction every two weeks all summer long!!!

    2. Beverley Buhr says:

How often do you fertilize your plants with the Miracle Grow mixture?

      Thank you

      1. We use the mixture every two weeks!

  7. Elizabeth Phillips says:

No Water? Why would just a cup of amonia, a cup of shampoo and 8 oz of beer need a 5 gallon bucket? This cannot be right.

    Advice please

    1. Elizabeth, Once Mixture has been incorporated poor mixture into a sprayer that connects to a hose..( I have picture of the type of sprayer you’ll need in the post!) Also do not poor directly onto grass it will kill it! It needs to go through the sprayer to be diluted with water! Hope that answers your question! <3 Andie

      1. Mary Chadwick says:

I think she is asking why 3 cups of mixture need a 5 gallon bucket instead of putting the mixture directly into the sprayer. Do you put the concentrate in the bucket and fill with water, then put THAT in the sprayer to dilute even more?

        1. Just mix in any size bucket — it doesn’t have to be a five gallon bucket, that’s just what we have always used! You could use a 1 gallon bucket if that’s what you have on hand! Sorry if that was confusing! Once mixed in whatever you want to mix it in, then put then concentrate in the sprayer 😉

      2. Can this also be used to fertilize grass?

        1. Yes!! It works great on grass 🙂

    2. Alex Post says:

Oh trust me it works! I tried this for the first time years ago, my comment is somewhere on here! And holy cow! It was like my flowers went crazy and within 24 hours the dried dying pots I had were full and back to life, and within a week maybe? Everything it touched was noticeably fuller in bloom and taller in height. Not to mention everything I sprayed this on, was now budding new life

    3. did you even READ the information

  8. How often do you give that to your plants?

    1. You can spray your plants every 2 weeks!!!

  9. I use just the Miracle Grow and it works wonders. I have the hugest tomatoes on the block and my plants and flowers are always gorgeous.

  10. How long can you keep this mixture.

    1. Do you too baby I don’t want me to come back and forth in the morning beautiful

  11. I am also a Master Gardener. I would not dispute that this could work, but I wouldn’t recommend doing it either.

I prefer to look at the broader picture and go organic. Plants will respond to chemical fertilization, but the beneficial microbes naturally present in the soil surrounding the plant’s roots will be at best repelled from the area and at worst destroyed. Which is the reason behind spraying it only on the plants and not directly on grass or soil. Some of these microbes actually extend the plant’s root system up to 1000x, and store water, which is later exchanged for plant sugars as water is needed by the plant. Without this symbiotic relationship, you plant is actually more dependent on you for water, and is ‘chemically dependent’ as well.

I would suggest an all-natural brand such as maxi-crop or spray-and-grow, or searching online for an organic spray fertilizer recipe.

    Respectfully, Linda

    1. Thanks for your insight Linda! I always can appreciate the insight and wisdom of others!

  12. Can I use it on regular potted house plants? Ex. basil, rosemary, lavender, green house plants, oregano, lemongrass, wheat grass, mint and so on…?

  13. Does it matter what kind of beer or shampoo? Light beer or reg? cheap shampoo and does it matter what scent? I look forward to giving this a go.

    1. Any beer and any shampoo will work! We buy the cheapest possible — keystone and V05 😉

  14. Any kind of beer ? Any kind of ammonia , does it have to be lemon ? You said that it would stain , will it stain once it is sprayed and mixed with water? I have a few hanging baskets . A couple on my front porch , Don’t want to stain the front of my house ! Thanks

    1. Yep any kind! After it’s diluted with water in the sprayer it will not stain! It’s as a concentrate you need to be extra careful!! 🙂

  15. I have the kind of sprayer that is a big barrel with water and you pour a concentrate (say of this concoction) mix and spray. Can I use that kind of sprayer?

    1. The Miracle Gro Shower sprayer works THE best for this application — But you could give it a go. Let me know if it works!

  16. pierre roy says:

faites votre miracle grow vous meme, 1 gallon d’eau ,1 culi soup sel d’epson,1cuil thé soda a pate,1 cuil thé amoniaque,2 cuil soupe lait en poudre. voila .

  17. Does this work on vegetables too? Or just flowers?

    1. We’ve used it on both with great results!

  18. if it kills grass, would it kill weeds?

      1. OK, I’ve read in the comments that it kills grass and then I read that you use leftover on grass. I’m confused. Is it used on grass or not? Can’t wait to try it!!

        1. If put directly on grass without diluting it will kill your grass– but if you dilute it and use the sprayer you’re good!

  19. Can this be used on houseplants

    1. Yep! I would just spray them outside and then bring em’ back in!

    2. Yes! I would just spray them outside then bring em’ in!

  20. I am desperate for help with my garden. After all of this is mixed together does it ALL still fit into the sprayer? Even when I just use the granules it’s filled to the brim.

    1. I recommend mixing the ingredients in a bucket then transferring it to the sprayer as you go along! — Hope that helps!

      1. Do I have to add water to the ingredients? I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you. I really want to try this. Does it work with succulents and cacti?

        1. Add the mixed ingredients to a miracle gro type sprayer that you attach to your hose and spray those lovely plants of yours! I don’t why it wouldn’t help your cacti!

  21. Renate Koenig says:

How long after spraying is it all right to harvest vegetables?

    1. I’d say a couple days and just rinse them well before eating!

  22. Is this amount supposed to be used up completely each time? I just did my entire backyard with raised beds, shrubs and planters and the miracle grow sprayer is still 2/3 full of the blue concoction! Not sure if my sprayer is too slow or if I just keep using bits of it every two weeks??

    1. Just keep the unused “concoction” in an air tight container till you need to spray again in two weeks!

  23. I’m riddled with aphids – do you know if this will help?? The dish soap/water spray that most people recommend ended up burning all my tomato leaves

  24. Can u use it for lawns?

    1. We typically use what’s “left” on our lawn and it works great!!!

  25. Can I used on my rose bush

  26. Thanks for sharing…will keep a calendar to remind me of the two week cycle…citrus tree?

    1. Yay!! Let me know how it goes!! Yes on the citrus trees!

  27. Does your husband spray the entire plant, foliage and all or just the roots of the plant? How often? Is there a time fo day that is best to spray this ? I would assume early morning before it gets too hot?

    1. He sprays the entire plant every two weeks usually in the mornings or evenings when it’s not too hot!

  28. I live in AZ. and nothing works for tomatoes. Its just to hot here .

  29. I’m excited to see what happens I just watered almost all that I plant 🙂
Can’t wait to see results! Thank you so much for sharing. I’d like to see pictures of your results after using this 😉

  30. Can I use this on ALL plants? What about Azalea?

    1. Yep it works with all above ground plants!! 🙂

  31. Can you use cloudy ammonia.

  32. Pieter Hooft says:

I can’t wait to see it with my own eyes that this is really true. And after the damages to my trees from the hurricane, I would really love to see if it works, to see that this is: STEROIDS for plants!

  33. Burma Carpenter says:

Can you use this in winter on Pansy’s and cabbage plants??

    1. I think it would be great for Pansies! And it would work well on the cabbages as well! Just make sure you rinse produce thoroughly before eating!

  34. Kathy Clausen says:

Have you ever figured out the solution/water ratio? Like maybe 2 Tbsp. per 2 gallon watering can? or 1/4 cup maybe? I have many garden areas too far away from the water source for a hose to reach. Would love to try it although I too, am concerned about the chemicals.

    1. I’m not sure on ratios — we just run it through the hose sprayer so no measuring…

      1. Chris pulido says:

Just spray into watering can from the hose and it should be diluted the same.

        1. Chris you need to dilute with water! Use the sprayer attached to a hose to do so!

  35. Elaine Murray says:

Can i use it on my on my Orchids, Vanda and Dendrobiun.

    1. Yes!! Works awesome on Flowers! 🙂

  36. Can you use body wash instead of shampoo

    1. I’ve never tried body wash… I would stick with the shampoo 🙂

  37. You should post pictures of your flowers and garden

  38. This shampoo thing…don’t you get bubbles?

    1. Nope! It’s diluted enough where you won’t see the bubbles 🙂

  39. Gosh girl! I feel for you! You must be exhausted with all the questions (many that were already answered previously or a matter of common sense). We’ll I just wanted to say this idea sounds brilliant to me, and I’m excited to give it a try. Thanks for sharing your secret with us.

  40. Andie,

Thanks so much for sharing and answering everyone’s questions. I am looking forward to trying this out! I am curious, does this also make your weeds grow like crazy? Could this possibly help get rid of pests like snails? They have been eating my garden like crazy and I’ve been trying to get rid of them for years. Thanks again.

    1. I’m not sure about pest control… but come to think about it we never saw any snails in the garden… so maybe!

  41. I am just getting started in a community garden. No hose and pretty far from a faucet. County did a built in irrigation system. I am going to follow your directions but when I run it through the sprayer at home I will let it empty into my portable sprayer. Hoping that will work since it will dilute through the sprayer the first time. What do you think? Thanks.

    1. diluting is a BIG Part so just make sure you’re diluting with loads of water

  42. I hate to ask another question…there are so many but…here goes. I have a variety of shrubs, usually Miracle Gro on some and Mira-cid on the others. Can I use this on all or do I need to mix them separately??

    1. We’ve used it on pretty much EVERYTHING with great success! So shrubs also respond really well! 🙂

  43. Will this work on fruits I have blueberries, grapes and muskcadine grapes? Thanks

    1. I haven’t personally used them on fruit… So not sure! Let me know if it worked for you!

  44. Does this work just was well on Vegetables? I have both Beautiful Flower Gardens and Vegetables.

    1. It works great for flowers!! We have also used it on veggies as well with success… Just make sure and rinse thoroughly when harvesting!

  45. Kathy Mecey says:

I just mixed up a batch in an empty milk jug. (also added 2 TBS of Epsom Salts) Hope it wasn’t too much. I had been watering my ferns with a diluted mix of water and Epsom Salts – so I added a bit to this recipe) The milk jug was really easy and you can shake it to mix – let it breathe ever once in a while – if the beer is fresh)

  46. Kathy Mecey says:

I had to add about 1 1/2 quarts of water to make the mixture dissolve….. Can’t wait to try it.

    1. Yes water is CRUCIAL to dilute this mixture! Good Luck!

  47. As a bonifide Master Gardener who went through the extension service training I would Not recommend using any of those products on your ornamental shrubs, trees, groundcovers or vegetable garden.
Be careful if you use ammonia as it’s very volatile!

Healthy soil begins with a soil test to determine PH.
From there you can act responsibly and add the correct organic product to adjust your soil balance.
READ labels….don’t over apply products or use them incorrectly.
Everyone should download the GROW SMART APP it has science based gardening advice etc.

if you simply must try the strange concoction use it ONLY on potted annual flowers.
Not on your lawn and garden.

    1. Thanks for your guidance! WE have used this for years and have always had success with everything we have tried! But other opinions are always valid and are worth consideration! 🙂 Thanks again!

      1. Andie, you are right. I think as the saying experience is the best answer.

  48. Thanks for sharing… I can’t wait to try this, for we just planted a huge garden. Sounds awesome!! Have a great summer.

  49. Can this be used on house plants and used in a regular spray bottle to water the plants?
    Thanks in advance.

    1. No it needs to be highly diluted and is best for outdoor plants only! 🙂

  50. Jeannette says:

I can’t wait to try this, but in my window boxes I use miracle grow potting soil.Do you think that this mixture would overload the plants with fertilizer or just give them a boost? I don’t want to possibly burn them.

    1. It just gives them a good kick in the pants they need to grow! 😉

  51. Jacquelyn Carmichael says:

Omg thank you for this my plants look super happy and they look like they are absorbing nutrients more effectively.

    1. Yay!!! We love it at our house! 🙂

    1. Brenda! Good Luck! Can’t wait to see your gorgeous flowers! 🙂

  52. Can you spray this on the apple tree that has fruits already?

    1. I’m not sure on fruit trees as I have never personally tested it. Let me know if it works for you!

  53. Will this work on hydrangeas and what part of hydrangeas do I spray. How often?

    1. Yes it works AWESOME on Hydrangeas! Mine looked ahhhmazing by the end of the season! Spray every 2-3 weeks for optimal results 🙂

  54. Hi, just wondering if our Amonia will be ok it’s so strong it takes my breath away and makes my eyes water, think it would kill any plant here in the UK. Hope you can help.

    1. It is diluted so heavily with water that it will not burn your plants. That is why a sprayer is imperative!

      1. Thanks for your first reply, just thinking that we only have Amonia in the UK , no lemon or other option. Do you think what we call bleach witch is not so strong would be the same as we have lemon and other like this? Thanks in advance .

  55. Can u use this on a vegetables garden

    1. We have and it works great. Just make sure you wash your veggies thoroughly! 🙂

  56. Raquel Rivera says:

How much concoction do you put in the water sprayer do you fill it up?

    1. Yep just fill the sprayer up with the concoction and then spray away!

    2. Raquel Rivera says:

Thank you. Andie for answering my question.

      1. Curious Andie – do you fully water your plants when you use this mixture, or just give each plant a small shot? Otherwise, is it possible to “overdose” your plants when you feed this mixture every 2-3 weeks….
        Lola

        1. Yep water your plants as you normally would 🙂

  57. This sounds great a would like to give it a go! But will it harm the hummingbird’s and butterflies that i’m trying to attract? Thank you for any info.

    1. We’ve never had any issues with it harming wildlife 🙂

  58. Dose really work it wont harm my plants

    1. I promise it works and it will not harm your plants!

  59. Mary Warren says:

Can you spray your grass with this?

  60. great tips can’t wait to try it thanks

  61. How often do you apply this plant formula to your garden or flowers?

  62. Cheyenne Johnson says:

Will this work well on roses? Or is it too harsh?

    1. This was originally met for roses! So it works great 🙂

  63. Does the type of beer matter? Like will it work better with a lighter beer like coors or a wheat beer like blue moon or something darker like a porter? Just curious thank you

    1. I just use the cheap keystone type variety

  64. Hi! I was wondering once the solution goes through the sprayer if it stains brick? Thanks Shelly

    1. It shouldn’t! Once it’s diluted with water

  65. Hi Andie..I am from Utah and today I used your secret family recipe. First time I’ve ever been asked for my ID since I’ve purchaesd alcohol:-) before. Looking forward to the results. I have won the cities beabeautification award twice within 5 years. Hope this will be #3. Thanks for sharing!

  66. What is a “sleeve” of MiracleGrow?

  67. Thanks Andie for this unique mixture! I think I wil give it a try. I must commend you on your patience with repeating answers that can be found 20 times in earlier posts. Everyone should read all the posts. They can learn a lot. Also you show such class when responding to the “master gardners” Personally I think some of the best inventions today were thought of by people who think outside the box and experiment! Sometimes what works doesn’t need to make book sense. Anyway, I think I was reading along thinking Lord I wish I had her patience! LOL.

    1. I totally agree! I am impressed with your patience answering the same questions over and over! Great idea! Thank you so much!

  68. I have a similar recipe, the only difference is using Baby Shampoo, bcuz it’s milder. I was thinking of trying to use one even milder, Castile soap. Whole lot less chemicals and it’s only in there to wash off the plants so they can intake sun’s rays better & also helps loosen up hard soils like mine, clay.
It takes a special kinda crazy to garden in clay, that’s for sure. LOL

  69. Thanks for sharing! Will give it a try!

  70. when I looked up the packers, it says they are the equivalent of 1 tablespoon of the granular but a precious comment said to use 2 cups of the granules? The ration is 1 tablespoon to 1 gallon water so should I be using 2 cups of these granules?

    1. Yep use the Cups of Granules the will be HIGHLY diluted with water!

Do you have pets that nibble on the grass & such? This sounds great but not pet safe, right? We have a new pup who eats everything. Thanks for sharing!

    1. No pets… But I have neighbors with pets who have used it and have had no issues 🙂

  72. Hi, I may have missed it… how often do you use this spray?

  73. MYIA POWELL says:

Andie, Many thanks for sharing the info for big & beautiful plants. I have tons of plants in my yard (front sides & back) I’m looking forward to trying out your “steroids” for plants. I’m a “plants” NUT. I like flowers & plants, and love them when they bloom . I will let you know how my plants/flowers reacted to your “concoction”. I live here in the Caribbean (USVI) where it seems that flowers bloom all the time, but I would love to see bigger and better blooms. Again many thanks, Myia

Is there a measurement for the Micro Gro if you don’t buy it in the sleeves?

    1. Donna Huddleston says:

Sorry I just seen someone else had asked the same question…. Have a great day

  75. Hi, I tried this and it killed my ferns. I think I didn’t dilute the ingredients with enough water. Will not be trying this again. You never specified how much water should be in the bucket.
    C.

    1. Per the instructions the water DOES NOT go into the bucket… It is diluted through the sprayer attached to a hose. Try it again using this method and it works WONDERS! Good Luck!

  76. Elizabeth says:

Can you use these on succulents or just normal flowers?

    1. I have not used it on succulents so I am not sure how they would respond. I would stick with normal plants.

  77. Andie,
Is it ok if the solution gets on the foliage of the plants?

    1. YES!!! It works fantastic for foliage!

  78. Andie, if you don’t use all of the solution, can it sit for the next two weeks and still be usable??

    1. I’ve always used the entire concoction when we mix it — SO I don’t know if it would save ok….

  79. So how do i get this recipe??

    1. Just keep clicking the “NEXT” button at the bottom at it will take you to recipes — I think I even changed it to say “Take Me To The Recipe” to make it clearer 🙂 — Good Luck!

  80. Exactly how much shampoo and beer and ammonia do u use?

  81. Can I use this on my food garden as well or just on flowers, trees and bushes?

    1. Janice! We have used it for above ground plants and it has worked great!

  82. I’m going to get busy in my garden in few weeks, so my question is: can I use this solution on fruit trees? Plums, apples and cherries… Young trees. Thanks

    1. It works GREAT for trees! Good Luck!

  83. This is a wonderful tip. I just bought my separated today! I hope this helps me grow better plants. I’m not the best gardener.
