That is why self-care for moms is so important! Whether you are a new mom or a seasoned pro taking time out for YOU is essential. In this post, I will be sharing self-care ideas for Moms to help you feel more balanced. This will allow you to be the YOUR best Mom self.

Self Care For Moms should not be “optional” You need to give yourself a dang break.

We, as Moms, give and give all day long! Yes, we are repaid in hugs and kisses and some heart-melting moments dispersed throughout the day. But that does not change that I’m generally exhausted by the end of the day.

As my kiddos get older and are in High School, I have more breaks than I used to, but my worries have gone from them choking on random objects or running out into the streets to much more scary things, with long-lasting results. Are they happy? Are they making good choices? So although my breaks are more readily available, I still am exhausted. Teenagers are exhausting.

If you’re a younger mom, please know that the endless days of diapers and wiping noses will end sooner than you think. Enjoy this time. It DOES go by fast.

When I was a young mom, I remember that finding time for myself would set me up for a heaping serving of Mom guilt. But after a while, I realized that by taking that time for myself, I became a better mom, and I was better able to handle “mom life” with more ease and grace. Self-care is no joke and should be taken SERIOUSLY!

We need to talk more about mental health. Taking a break when you need to is not selfish! You need to take care of your own needs to have the energy you need to take care of others.

Don’t get me wrong, being a mom is not easy, and every day presents new challenges, but it also presents new opportunities to laugh and enjoy these kids that call us Mom!

Finding ways to take breaks is a MUST to ensure that we keep laughing and have patience with our kiddos! To help give you some self care ideas, I’ve compiled a list of my top favorite things to do to take a break!

Hopefully, these ideas will keep you sane, laughing, and soaking up all the joys that come with motherhood.

The BEST Self Care Ideas For Moms!

1.Put yourself in time out. Sometimes, when I can feel myself losing my cool, I tell my child to give me 5 minutes. Sometimes it’s me that needs a time out and not my kids. By giving myself 5 minutes of alone time, I take deep breaths and think things through. This ensures that my parenting comes from love and patience, not frustration and anger. It is always best to respond and not react. Taking extra time out when I need it helps me do just that. Even take time to sneak a quick meditation in while you’re in “time out.”

2.Book an appointment for a special luxury. You, my friend, deserve a spa day! Whatever your favorite way to be pampered is, find the time to do it! With a to do list that is always a mile long, taking a day or even an or two by myself feels indulgent, but I do it anyway. It helps to reset, and I have even more energy to get things done! So give yourself permission to spoil yourself, schedule a date night with yourself!

3.Work out. There is a strange thing that happens when you start working out regularly. Instead of being exhausted, you begin to have MORE energy! Even taking just 30 minutes every day to MOVE will provide so many health benefits. The gym is also a fantastic way to “workout” your mom frustrations. I love a good long run or lifting weights. Even a quick walk around the neighborhood when I am short on times does wonders for my soul.

4.Connect with other moms. As women, we need each other! Schedule time to hang out with a best friend. Meet up at a coffee shop for a cup of coffee together. See a funny movie. If you are new to an area and need to meet some new friends, sign up for a class to learn a new hobby. This is a great way to meet other Moms. Sometimes making new friends as an adult can be tricky.

5.Dive into a Good Book. Reading a favorite book is a great way to relax! I love to curl up with a good book! Sometimes escaping with a good read is all I need to feel more relaxed. Find an author or a genre you love. There is no shame in a good teen vampire romance.

6.Spend some time outside. Sometimes, when I feel tired and need to take a breather, I sit out on our patio and enjoy just being outside. Feeling the sun on my face and the fresh air does wonders for the soul. For added relief, take a short walk, go for a run, or head to the mountains for a hike. All have healing benefits when we reconnect with Mother Nature.

7.Treat Yourself. This mom gig is not for the faint of heart, so I like to treat myself to keep me feeling good and my energy high! Choose little rewards for all your hard work; choose things that light you up inside. Order a fabulous adult coloring book, indulge in a fancy bubble bath or bath bombs, buy some relaxing essential oils. I love ordering a fantastic face mask!

8.Write A Love Letter To Yourself: This is a powerful practice and an excellent tool for connecting with yourself. What do you wish your kids and husband would say to you? Write it all out in your love letter. Show yourself the love you so freely give everyone else in your life. You deserve LOVE!

So when you’re feeling overwhelmed and need a break, don’t feel guilty! Breaks are as much needed for you as they are for your children. I hope you enjoy these self-care activities! By taking time for yourself, your whole family will benefit. Make these self care ideas for Moms a part of your daily routine. They will make you a better parent! And more importantly, they will help you sustain good mental health.

If you are having a difficult time, ask for help.
