The New Atkins

· · · ·

This post is brought to you by Atkins, but opinions expressed are 100% my own.

This past month I had the opportunity to partner with the brand Atkins® at the Everything Food Conference. Sandwiched between the Olive people and the Bosch baking people (I think someone had a laugh with that placement) I helped answer questions on how low carb living has played a role in my life and how Atkins® has evolved and become a brand I can support and promote.

If you were raised in the nineties, you may have a misconception that Atkins just touts burgers and bacon as the key to weight loss success.

The Atkins® of today still embraces the low carb lifestyle but now focuses on choosing foods that are low on the glycemic index and have no hidden sugars. Think healthy vegetables, berries, and lean meats and full-fat dairy – free of unnecessary sugars. All foods and concepts I fully support.

As we age our bodies can struggle to break down carbohydrates – which can make it harder to lose weight. And if you happen to be pre-diabetic or have issues with insulin sensitivities – Atkins may be a good fit for you.

A year ago I was diagnosed with PCOS – Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome and have struggled with losing weight – Everything that I use to do to easily lose weight didn’t work. It seemed like ten pounds just crept in one night while I was sleeping took up residence and decided they were not leaving for anything.

But as I struggled and did my research – a low carb lifestyle kept coming back as something that would work for me to help maintain a healthy weight and one my body would function well with. So for the last while, I have been choosing to eat more in alignment with the Atkins® lifestyle. They have so many delicious recipes on their website and their cookbook is gorgeous! It is filled with great tips, swaps, and delicious recipes to help make your transition as smooth as possible!

If you missed it, I was able to do a Facebook live where I answered several questions that were submitted via social media. Here is that interview!

Some of my favorite takeaways from partnering with Atkins is that no matter where you are on your weight loss journey there is always room to make choices that are more in line with greater health.

I have shared this so many times but I think it bears repeating – Diets do NOT work. But lifestyle changes DO! When you make the mental shift from “dieting” and not being able to “eat that” to “I am choosing to fuel my body with foods that are healthy and nutritious to help me to feel and perform at my best” – REAL change occurs and the weight comes off and stays off. Making the mental shift to a more Atkins low carb lifestyle had been such a great shift for me. My body is REAL thankful! I am feeling so good and that scale I talked about that was not budging – yep, it is starting to move.

So join me! I am so excited to continue to partner with Atkins and share some great ways to stay low carb and on track this summer!

  1. You’re so right – that mental shift is key and really makes the difference between trying to lose weight and trying to be healthy. I’m excited to learn more about this!

  2. Beth Pierce says:

I am glad to hear you have had some success with the Atkins diet! I should give that a try again!

  3. I totally agree! “Dieting” never works long term but choosing to live a healthier life style will.

  4. I definitely think that being healthy is more than dieting and is often a mental shift. Thanks for sharing!
