What is great about doing a detox bath is that it is a simple way to detox your body without drinking a concoction or taking anything. Using the right ingredients combined with hot water is one of the best ways to cleanse harmful toxins from your body.

The ingredients for this detox bath are simple and readily available at most grocery or health food stores, which makes this DIY Detox Bath Recipe:

  1. a keeper
  2. a winner

This truly is a super simple recipe, but I’ll walk you through the entire process, so you can feel confident you are mastering detox bath time like a champ!

Photo of ingredients used in detox bath recipe magnesium flakes, lavender essential oil, Epsom salt, and baking soda. Sitting on the edge of a white tub.

Step 1: Water: Run the water like a regular bath, but make sure that the water is HOT, not burning but hot enough that you are a bit uncomfortable at first. Please do not burn your skin, so not that hot! The point is, you want the water to be hot enough to create a sauna effect so that you can sweat out toxins.

Step 2: As the tub fills, add 1 cup of baking soda or sodium bicarbonate: Baking Soda will help balance your pH levels. It also acts as an antifungal to help ward off any bacteria or infections. The active ingredients in baking soda will help relieve tension and pain, promote perspiration, boost circulation and encourage healing.

Step 3:  Add 1 cup of Epsom salt or magnesium sulfate: Not only does Epsom salt help to draw out toxins, adding it to a hot bath helps to soothe sore and achy muscles from working out! {So, if you are feeling sore, this detox bath will help with that as well.} I always add cups of Epsom salt to my bath after long runs. Some other excellent benefits of Epsom salts include aiding in weight management, increased health, and relaxation.

Step 4: Add 10-15 Drops of your favorite essential oils – I like to add lavender oil. It makes my own detox bath super relaxing! Other great oils to consider include peppermint oil, ginger,

Step 5: Add 1 Cup Magnesium Flakes: {Added Bonus-Not required} 100% Pure Magnesium Chloride Flakes are an ideal natural bath additive for softening skin. Pure magnesium flakes have traditionally been used to improve skin hydration and make a soothing addition to bathwater. Immersing yourself in Magnesium water is an excellent source of magnesium. Magnesium is easily absorbable through the body’s pores. Magnesium is one of those minerals most of us are deficient in, so this healthy dose of magnesium via bath time is an easy way to help!

Step 6: Add 1 Cup Himalayan Pink Salt: There are so many Pink Himalayan salt benefits that you can take advantage of when using it as a part of a bath soak. It acts as a detoxifier, helping to draw out impurities. It leaves your skin feeling soft, smooth, and revived.

This is the base recipe, but feel free to church it up with some of these great homemade bath salts or add bentonite clay or apple cider vinegar to enhance your detox bath!
