Nothing can derail your fitness progress more than getting sick! These 7 Tips to strengthen your immune system will help you stay healthy and ON track!

Being sick is the worst.

It seems to happen just as we have all this awesome momentum going. We are starting to eat right, working out really hard and starting to make some progress. Then it happens we get sick. WHY!??

It is really easy to have this bout of illness derail our progress making it easier to give up and go back to our old habits.

But here is the deal when we are trying to make big changes this CAN happen. You are working your body harder than it’s used to, which can wear down your immune system making it easier to get sick.

So what a gal or guy to do?

I’ve got your back! I’m sharing 7 AWESOME Tips that will help to strengthen your immune system and help you prevent illness!

And with the current state of affairs (cough cough – I’m looking at your coronavirus) It is even more important to take extra precautions to keep your immunity levels high!

7 simple things you can do to strengthen your immune system

1. SLEEP- I cannot stress this one enough and I am pretty sure you’ve seen this one come to fruition in your own life. When you are working out and not getting enough sleep this is a sure-fire way to find yourself sick. So get your booty to bed at a decent hour and get the rest your body so desperately needs to recover from all your awesome work at the gym. Aim for 7-9 hours a night.

2. LAUGH – A recent 2007 study discovered that laughter really is the best medicine. It can give your immunity a ridiculously easy boost. Laughing promotes lower stress levels which can help improve sleep {See #1} both lower stress and better sleep, are known immunity boosters. So watch those episodes of your favorite sitcom, and laugh away! Just make sure the TV is turned off at a decent hour. 😉

3. GET SOME SUN-Just 15-20 minutes of direct sunlight will give you  a healthy dose of Vitamin D which is a known powerhouse when it comes to strengthening your immune system.

4. DRINK WATER: Staying hydrated is an easy way to strengthen your immune system. You should drink at the very least 2/3 of your weight in ounces in water every day. If you do find yourself coming down with something this is the time to increase your water intake.

5. CUT BACK ON SUGAR: Sugar can make you feel sluggish due to sugar crashes after consumption, and it can also reduce the efficacy of your immune system.

6. MEDITATE –Meditation is a great way to allow your body to relax and to properly deal with stress. Taking as little as 5 minutes a day to meditate can really help to lower stress, therefore, helping to strengthen your immune system. Check out a quick calming meditation below.

7. SUPPLEMENTS –  We hear take your vitamins, all the time but when it comes to immunity not all supplements are created equally. Here are some of my favorites that pack quite the punch.

It’s  super easy when things are insane as they are to spiral into worry, fear, and anxiety. So dear friends take a deep breath, try and relax and focus on what you can control. You can practice social distancing, you can take steps to improve your immunity.
